Villanova Forward Brynn McCurry Undergoes Third ACL Repair

Villanova Women’s Basketball forward Brynn McCurry announced in a social media post on Tuesday, Sept. 8 that she underwent ACL reconstruction on Sept. 1, and recovery from the operation on her right knee will prevent her from playing during the 2026-27 season.

This marks the third ACL tear for McCurry: she tore the ligament in her left knee while a senior in high school in 2022, then the ACL in her right knee on the eve of the 2024-25 season. McCurry averaged 10.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game during the 2025-26 season for Villanova, her first as a starter. She made 20 of 55 three-point attempts (36.4 percent) and won Philadelphia Big 5 Classic MVP honors for her performance against Temple.

Now a senior, McCurry still has another season of eligibility remaining based on the NCAA’s new five-in-five rule, but her injury marks a major loss for this year’s team. Villanova’s other options on the wing include sophomore guard Kennedy Henry, who has the height and versatility to guard multiple positions, and twin forwards Brooke and Elise Bender; senior transfer Anna Foley and recent Austrian signee Janet Oriakhi both have experience at forward and center, and junior reserve Rachel Wirts will also join the mix for minutes.
