Villanova Football Adds Two Defensive Commits
Villanova Football added a pair of defensive players to their 2026 roster on Saturday, Jan. 31, with linebacker transfer Tyler Cain and incoming defensive back recruit Josiah Adams both announcing their commitment to the Wildcats.
Cain, a redshirt sophomore with two seasons of eligibility remaining, is a western Pennsylvania product. After high school, he spent one season at the Naval Academy Preparatory School and two with the West Virginia Mountaineers before transferring to Slippery Rock (D-II) ahead of 2025. He stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 220 pounds, and has experience on special teams with West Virginia.
At Slippery Rock, one of the more successful programs in Division II in recent seasons, Cain racked up 54 tackles (28 solo), 6.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and two interceptions across ten games (six starts).
Adams attends Bonner-Prendergast in Drexel Hill, where he won the PIAA 4A state championship in 2024. During his senior season, Adams played eight games, compiling 34 solo tackles and six pass breakups across snaps at safety, outside and slot cornerback. He stands six feet tall and weighs 170 pounds.
Both Cain and Adams join positions of immediate need: Villanova lost linebackers Shane Hartzell and Richie Kimmel to graduation and had a series of starting defensive backs either graduate or hit the transfer portal. Cain could make an immediate impact, given his experience, but the Wildcats haven’t shied away from playing true freshmen as needed in recent seasons.
Their additions mean the Wildcats have 18 more spots to fill on their roster ahead of 2026.
