St. Joseph’s Rasheer Fleming Falls Out of Round 1 in the NBA Draft

Although most pundits expected St. Joseph’s forward Rasheer Fleming to come off the board sometime in the final third of the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft, the 6-foot-9 junior didn’t hear league commissioner Adam Silver call his name on Wednesday, June 25.
Recent mock drafts projected teams to select Fleming anywhere between the No. 20 and No. 27 selections. A post from the Hawks’ Twitter account showed Fleming on location at the Barclays Center, site of the 2025 Draft, ready to hear his name called on Wednesday night.

Surprise picks like the Memphis Grizzlies’ Yang Hansen, who came off the board at No. 16 instead of his expected No. 35 ranking, and Yanic Konan Niederhauser, projected at No. 34 but selected with the final pick of the first round, helped push Fleming to the second day of the draft.
A 232 pound power forward with anomalous talent and excellent athleticism for his size, Fleming was the only player in college basketball last season to make more than 40 dunks and 60 three-point shots. Averaging 14.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.4 steals for St. Joseph’s, Fleming unlocked a new dimension to his game during the 2024-25 season thanks to his renewed success from beyond the arc.
After making less than a third of his three-point attempts during each of his first two seasons on Hawk Hill, Fleming enjoyed a career year, boosting his success rate to 39 percent. His 7-foot-5 wingspan will certainly catch the eye of NBA franchises, even if pundits say that a lack of playmaking will temper expectations.
Another prospect expected to hear his name called in the second round of the draft is Villanova forward Eric Dixon, who led the nation in scoring in 2025.
