Roman Catholic 4-Star Sammy Jackson Commits to VCU

Philadelphia Roman Catholic Wing Sammy Jackson, a 6-foot-7 recruit in the Class of 2026, committed to VCU on Wednesday, June 25 in a livestreamed ceremony.
A four star recruit who ESPN ranks at No. 99 nationally in the class of 2025, Jackson narrowed his top four down to Indiana, Texas, VCU and St. Joseph’s over offers from more than a dozen programs. Playing for a loaded Roman Catholic squad that made the state championship game last season, he averaged 14 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.
During his commitment video, Jackson said that new Rams head coach Phil Martelli Jr. — whose father coached at St. Joseph’s for 24 years — made him feel at home.
He also said that he chose the Rams because of the vision they have for him. Despite his height, Jackson possesses the dribbling and shooting ability of a point guard. Philadelphia Sports Now interviewed Jackson in May, and he made it clear that he wanted to play guard at the next level rather than switching positions on account of his height.
“The biggest thing for every school is I’m a guard, and they’re going to play me as a guard: point guard, shooting guard, but a guard in college. Not a power forward, not a 5, none of that,” Jackson said.
Even so, Jackson, who currently tips the scale at 185 pounds, mentioned that he needs to bulk up as he prepares for the college game.
“One of the things they’ve [college coaches] asked me to do is just getting bigger. I feel like I have the IQ and knowledge of the game to be able to succeed, just getting bigger, stronger at the next level where there’s a different level of physicality.
