One of the first Philadelphia area recruits in the Class of 2026 to start picking up Division I offers has made his collegiate choice, as three-star shooting guard Ethan Johnston (The Hill School, Pottstown, Pa.) committed to Marquette on Wednesday, May 7. Sam Lance of ZagsBlog broke the news, which Johnston confirmed via retweet: per Lance’s report, Johnston said the Golden Eagles “made me feel a part of their family immediately.”

Johnston chose the Golden Eagles over offers from Villanova, Maryland, and a bevy of other power conference programs. Already 6-foot-6 and 185 pounds with another year to go in his high school career, Johnston plays with the fluidity and athleticism of a much smaller guard. Even though he’s listed as a wing, he’s a strong passer with solid handles, and has plenty of time to continue to grow into his frame.

A four-star recruit per 247Sports, that site ranks Johnston as the No. 118 player in his class. His composite ranking, which takes into account grades from the other three major recruiting sites, is only No. 142, but Johnston’s upside could see him skyrocket up the rankings as he continues to come into his own.

There are still at least five players with a Division I offer in the Philadelphia area who have yet to choose a college home: keep an eye on Philadelphia Sports Now’s 2026 recruiting big board to track the various recruits and the offers they pick up.
