The Villanova Wildcats will have another spot to fill on their roster ahead of the 2025-26 men’s college basketball season, as ESPN Top 100 recruit Dante Allen decommitted from the program on Friday, March 21 according to a report from Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

It’s an unsurprising move in the wake of Kyle Neptune’s firing, further contributing to the Wildcats’ state of flux. While he didn’t put out a statement, Allen retweeted reports of his decision to back out.

The announcement leaves Villanova without a single recruit for the class of 2025, and they’ll have at least five roster spots to fill as a result of players graduating… assuming no one leaves through the transfer portal, far from a given in this era of college hoops.

Allen, a legacy commit whose father Malik played for the Wildcats from 1996 to 2000, initially signed his official letter of intent back in November 2024.

Teams the Wildcats beat out to secure Allen’s commitment include Michigan, Tennessee, Georgia and Notre Dame.

A consensus four-star recruit, Allen checks in at No. 50 on ESPN’s Top 100, while 247Sports slots him in just behind at No. 42. His offensive game might take some time to translate to Division I, but his defensive ability (and effort) means he’ll be able to carve out a role early on regardless, wherever he might end up.
