Phillies Prospect Watch: Felix Reyes Homers in First MLB At-Bat
Phillies’ outfield prospect Felix Reyes made his big league debut on Saturday, April 18 and joined a club inhabited by just 137 other players in the 140 year history of Major League Baseball. The 25-year-old Dominican Republic native homered in his first career at-bat, crushing a solo home run the opposite way for his seventh trip around the bases this season: he hit six homers in 18 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley to earn the promotion.
The IronPigs won 10-6 without Reyes as part of a 3-1 night for Phillies’ affiliates. Robert Moore homered and Christian Cairo went 4-for-5 as seven of Lehigh Valley’s nine batters reached base at least twice. First baseman Bryson Ware homered for Double-A Reading, and outfield prospect Dante Nori went 2-for-4 with a walk; Dylan Campbell added a double and Fightin Phils starter Braydon Tucker pitched five innings of one run ball, helping to secure a 6-2 win.
High-A Jersey Shore went 6-for-17 with runners in scoring position and needed just ten hits to light up the scoreboard in a 13-2 win. Center field prospect Devin Saltiban went 3-for-6 with a double, while shortstop Jose Colmenares homered and reached base three times. Both batters added a stolen base. Right-hander Sam Highfill, a former undrafted free agent out of NC State, went five innings and allowed his first earned run of the season, maintaining a microscopic 0.69 ERA.
Single-A Clearwater lost 8-5 to round out the slate. Matt Ferrara went 1-for-4 with a triple and a walk, the Threshers’ lone extra base hit. Alirio Ferrebus added a single and a walk; Griffin Burkholder reached base four times, going 1-for-2 with two walks and a hit by pitch.
