Phillies Prospect Watch: Dante Nori Ramping Up
Phillies minor league affiliates went 2-2 on Wednesday, April 8, with Double-A Reading and High-A Jersey Shore piling on at the plate; Lehigh Valley and Clearwater, on the other hand, both struggled to score.
Reading managed their first win of the season, Dante Nori going 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Dylan Campbell continued to struggle at the plate despite an 8-1 win, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and a walk… he also got picked off first base and was caught stealing, his batting average dropping down to .056 on the season.
Zack Wheeler made important strides in his third minor league start of the season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Even with his velocity lacking as he recovers from Thoracic outlet syndrome and the rib he had removed as a result, Wheeler managed to make it through 4.1 innings, striking out six batters and allowing just one run. He also pitched efficiently, landing 44 of 61 pitches in the zone.
Felix Reyes continued to power Lehigh Valley’s offense, going 1-for-4 with a home run, but the Red Wings shelled the IronPigs bullpen in the late innings.
Left-hander Mavis Graves made his season debut for High-A Jersey Shore, going three innings with five strikeouts and a solo home run allowed. 2024 tenth round pick Brady Day went 1-for-2 with a double and three walks as designated hitter: when in the field, he splits time between second and third.
Single-A Clearwater struggled to generate offense outside of right fielder Jonathan Hogart, who went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, notching his second extra base hit in as many days.
