Phillies Prospect Watch: Baserunning Party in High-A

Phillies affiliates went 0-for-4 on Sunday, Aug. 30 with plenty of offense and even more meatballs thrown. 

Triple-A Lehigh Valley lost 8-0 via no-hitter, walks from Keaton Anthony and Kameron Misner saving them from a perfect game. Double-A Reading lost 14-5. Shortstop Bryan Rincon and left fielder Dante Nori each walked twice and stole a base; first baseman Alex Binelas homered and drew another free pass, while third baseman Carson DeMartini went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a steal.

The onslaught continued in High-A Jersey Shore, who lost 8-5. The left side of the BlueClaws’ infield powered their offense: third baseman Brady Day went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored, and shortstop Juan Villiavicencio (2-for-4) doubled and walked. Designated hitter Carter Mathison (2-for-4) homered, but a rough start from right-hander Tanner Gresham put the BlueClaws on the back foot. 

Jersey Shore also had a field day on the basepaths. Villavicenio swiped two bags, as did outfielder Devin Salitban (1-for-3 with a walk); Day added a steal of his own, and left fielder Wuilfredo Antunez (1-for-4 with a walk) stole three. 

Single-A Clearwater rounded out the organizational sweep with a 7-4 loss. Second baseman Nolan Beltran (2-for-4) and first baseman Will Vierling (2-for-3 with a walk) both doubled; 2025 ninth round pick Matt Ferrara (2-for-3 with a walk) also reached base three times. Starter Yordanis Guerra allowed one run in three innings, striking out two batters on 35 pitches, but the Threshers’ bullpen ran out of steam.

Elsewhere in the organization, the Phillies released right-hander Jean Cabrera, formerly one of their top pitching prospects. After a strong Double-A season in 2025, Cabrera struggled mightily with Lehigh Valley this year and never managed to regain his footing after a demotion to Reading.
