Phillies Prospect Watch: Raylin Heredia’s Defensive Gem

Phillies affiliates went 3-2 on Saturday, Aug. 29 with a defensive masterclass from outfielder Raylin Heredia.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley dropped both legs of their doubleheader, managing just one hit and two walks in the first game. The bats woke up early in Game 2, but Brian Keller got shelled for five runs in 1.2 innings on the way to a 7-6 loss. The IronPigs drew 10 walks in that game, including two from Otto Kemp and Kameron Misner — the latter of whom made it on base four times on the day — and three from Keaton Anthony. Cody Thomas doubled and Robert Moore tripled to log the IronPigs’ only extra base hits.

Double-A Reading swept both legs of their doubleheader, on the other hand. Bryan Rincon (1-for-2 with a walk) and Caleb Ricketts (3-for-3) homered off Saint Joseph’s alumnus Luke Gabrysh, formerly of the Phillies’ organization. Carson DeMartini doubled and walked, and Heredia nailed a runner at home for an outfield assist.

The Fightin Phils pitched a combined shutout in game two. Luke Russo kicked off the evening with five scoreless frames; Mavis Graves and Wen-Hui Pan each put up a solid inning in relief. Heredia picked up another assist to preserve the shutout, while Aroon Escobar logged one of Reading’s three doubles.

High-A Jersey Shore won 2-0 to round out the slate. Left fielder TJayy Walton (2-for-3 with a walk) led the way at the plate, while starter Brandon Beckel kicked off the two-hitter with 4.1 innings and five strikeouts across 58 pitches thrown. Single-A Clearwater, meanwhile, had their game cancelled due to inclement weather.
