Villanova Center Luigi Suigo Arrives On Campus
Long-awaited Villanova center recruit Luigi Suigo arrived on the Main Line on Tuesday, July 28, with Wildcats’ assistant coach Ricky Harris posing for a picture in front of Campus Corner on Lancaster Avenue.
The 7-foot-3 Milan native, dubbed the “Italian Wemby” in reference to 7-foot-4 San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama, just missed making his Finneran Pavilion debut in the Wildcats’ Summer Jam open practice session the previous day.
While Villanova Men’s Basketball has already completed a good deal of their summer practice regimen, Suigo, 19, already has professional experience, suiting up for a Serbian club and averaging 18.1 minutes, 8.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 blocks off the bench last season. While he might need some time to adjust to head coach Kevin Willard’s system, Suigo isn’t a stranger to the demands of high-level basketball.
He weighed in at 290 pounds at the NBA Draft Combine, a promising sign given the durability issues many lanky athletes have to deal with… and with a stated intention of going one-and-done, don’t be surprised if expectations for Villanova skyrocket now that he’s officially on campus.
