Villanova Women’s Basketball has done an excellent job to this point in the 2025-26 season, playing to the second-best record in the Big East and well on their way to an NCAA Tournament berth for the first time since 2023.

They ran into the No. 1 team in the Big East — and the country — on Thursday, Jan. 15, falling 99-50 to UConn as the Huskies showed why they’re the overwhelming favorites to win it all for the second season in a row. The Wildcats (14-4, 7-2 Big East) managed to play the Huskies even in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 38-23 with a 10-0 run that included three-point shots from Kennedy Henry and Ryanne Allen.

Beyond that, UConn dominated, forcing 26 turnovers (nine in the first quarter alone). After missing Sunday’s win over Providence, Henry led the Wildcats in scoring with 12 points; Brynn McCurry finished just behind her with 11. Villanova did a solid job defending the three-point line, allowing a 6-of-20 conversion rate, but the Huskies made 54.9 percent of their shots overall compared to just 27.7 percent for the Wildcats.

Sarah Strong filled the box score for UConn, finishing with 24 points, nine rebounds, four assists, five blocks and three steals. The Huskies have now won ten games in a row against Villanova and 22 of the last 23 matchups.

Up next, Villanova will host Butler at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18.
