Villanova Women’s Basketball won their sixth game in a row on Sunday, Feb. 15, dropping Creighton 74-64 in Omaha behind 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists from sophomore guard Jasmine Bascoe.

The Wildcats (21-5, 14-3 Big East) tightened their grip on the No. 2 spot in the conference, hanging on for a double digit win despite starters Denae Carter (16 points) and Brynn McCurry fouling out in the fourth quarter. Villanova began the game on a 1-for-6 streak, then took control with a 12-0 run that lasted more than four minutes, forcing eight turnovers in the frame.

Creighton fought back to take the lead on a pair of Neleigh Gessert threes early in the second quarter: the Blue Jays made just five of 15 shots on their way into the half, but a 4-of-8 clip from beyond the arc helped them put Villanova on notice. McCurry and Carter helped the Wildcats inch ahead in the third quarter, going a combined 6-for-6 from the field and 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Seven straight points midway through the frame — including a McCurry and-one and a coast-to-coast steal and layup from Kennedy Henry (17 points) — put Villanova in front for good.

The Wildcats’ defense took over in the fourth quarter, allowing just one shot in the first five minutes, and Bascoe scored 14 points to put Creighton away.

Villanova will return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18 when they host No. 1 UConn at the Finneran Pavilion.
