Villanova Transfer Recap: How Wildcats Compare to the Big East

Villanova Men’s Basketball needed to fill 11 spots on their roster ahead of the 2025-26 season as a result of graduation and transfers.
How have they performed so far in achieving that task? Per The Portal Report, which tracks transfer portal entries, assesses player performances and is used by both college basketball coaches, players and agents, the Wildcats have put together the fifth-best transfer portal performance out of the 11 teams in the Big East, when viewed through the lens of talent gained and lost via transfers.
Villanova received a grade of +23.5; Creighton, the best-performing team in the Big East, received a +43.7, while Seton Hall, the league’s worst, ended up with -13.9. The Wildcats finished close on the heels of Xavier and Butler, who received matching 26.9 grades. With at least four roster spots left to fill, the Wildcats could continue to improve on that grade.
What the Numbers Mean
That grade only includes transfers: it doesn’t factor in the departure of top performers like Eric Dixon and Wooga Poplar due to graduation, but it does include players without eligibility like Jordan Longino and Enoch Boakye who entered the portal in the hope of the NCAA instituting a fifth year of eligibility for all athletes.
Another caveat is that many of the players who Villanova lost to the portal were young and hadn’t played much: transfers like Josiah Moseley, Kris Parker, Jordann Dumont and Malcolm Thomas played sparingly (or not at all) last season, but could’ve continued to develop with the Wildcats, coming into their own as a regular contributor as they adjust to the college game.
Only time will tell exactly how the Wildcats’ transfer losses and acquisitions ended up impacting their performance… but after an intrigue-packed head coaching change and three seasons without an NCAA Tournament appearance, putting up a solid performance in the always-competitive Big East is nothing to sneeze at.
