Villanova Men’s Basketball continues to pick up votes in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, earning five points in the ranking published for the week of Monday, Dec. 15. The Wildcats (8-2) earned nine points last week, so their loss to No. 2 Michigan did have a slight negative impact on their standing. The poll issues points on an inverse basis, so a first place vote provides 25 points and a 25th place vote means just one point.

Of teams receiving some measure of votes, but not enough to warrant a spot in the top 25, Villanova ranked 11th, the equivalent of the No. 36 overall spot. They currently check in at No. 34 in both the NET and KenPom metrics, so that stacks up pretty well with their national standing.

UConn (No. 5) and St. John’s (No. 22) were the only Big East teams to land among the top 25 this week. Seton Hall (46 points, good for the equivalent of No. 28) also earned votes. The Wildcats will have just one more tune-up before conference play begins, a neutral site matchup against the Wisconsin Badgers at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19.

In other Villanova basketball news, point guard Acaden Lewis earned Big East Freshman of the Week honors after posting 11 points, seven assists, two steals and just one turnover in the Wildcats’ Dec. 13 win over Pitt.

Despite landing at No. 29 in the women’s NET rankings with a dominant Quad 1 win over West Virginia to their name, Villanova Women’s Basketball didn’t pick up any votes for the second week in a row.
