Villanova Reaction: Wildcats’ Perception Picking Up Steam
In a recurring recent theme, Villanova Men’s Basketball picked up their best win of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 23, taking down the Seton Hall Pirates 64-56 in a game they led by as much as 20 points in the second half.
The win gives Villanova (10-2, 1-0 Big East) their first in a Quadrant 1 game this season, and a very real chance of landing in the AP Poll’s Top 25 next Monday. After three straight seasons without an NCAA Tournament appearance and with a new coaching staff and roster, the Wildcats needed to earn the benefit of the doubt from fans, media and, most importantly, the selection committee that controls who earns an at-large bid.
Villanova still has 19 games to play in their Big East schedule, so it’s far too early to book any travel plans for March, but there’s a palpable buzz around the Wildcats right now, a feeling sorely missed during the Kyle Neptune era.
After the win, head coach Kevin Willard told the media that he likes how his team is flying under the radar right now.
“We’re trending in the right direction, and I like the fact that no one is really talking about us,” Willard said… but with the way his team is playing, and to judge the social media reaction, the Wildcats are a trendy team right now. Here’s what they had to say.
Kevin Willard had to basically build a basketball team from scratch at Villanova this year
The Wildcat team he put together already has real hopes for the NCAA Tournament
Never underestimate the effect of a good coach in College Basketball

Villanova head coach Kevin Willard on what Shaheen Holloway has done:
"This era is insane. What [Holloway] has to deal with and what everyone has to deal with. The NCAA is totally clueless loss. It's a joke. I just tried to sign a 47-year-old Chinese guy in the Chinese European…

What a performance by Villanova in Kevin Willard’s return to The Rock. Can’t overstate how impressive Acaden Lewis’ floor game is. To think he and Matt Hodge are freshmen is remarkable. Bryce Lindsay’s a bucket. Brennan is tough. And now Nova is gaining steam defensively. Clinic.

Just heard Perkins saying "ATTITUDE ATTITUDE" after Brennan was called for a blocking foul.
Villanova still prides itself with being mentally above the rest. #ATTITUDE

Acaden Lewis aced his first Big East game. Villanova got sloppy at the end, but the result was never really in question.

Villanova head coach Kevin Willard on entering Big East play:
“We're battle-tested. We've played BYU on the road, Michigan on the road, Wisconsin on the road. We've had to play three Big Five games, which, if you haven't played through the Big Five, every one of those games is…

#Villanova’s (@NovaMBB) Acaden Lewis on his first Big East game:
“I kind of grew up playing in DC, Maryland, Virginia area, like those are the games we play, like physical. Wild, wild games. And those are the fun ones to play, especially in packed out arenas like this. So yeah,…

Everyone was saying “RANK SETON HALL” when we really should’ve been saying “RANK VILLANOVA”
My apologies #sorry
