Villanova in the Pros: Kyle Lowry Signs With Hometown 76ers
Philadelphia native and Villanova Men’s Basketball legend Kyle Lowry signed a one-year contract with his hometown 76ers on Monday, July 7. The 76ers didn’t announce terms of the deal beyond duration.
After attending high school at the now-defunct Cardinal Dougherty in North Philly, Lowry played for the Wildcats for two seasons and helped them make a 2006 Final Four appearance. Villanova retired his No. 1 jersey, also worn by Jalen Brunson and longtime trainer Jake Nevin, in 2020.
Lowry appeared in 35 games for the 76ers last season while dealing with a hip injury, averaging 3.9 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Now on the cusp of his 20th season in the NBA, the 39-year-old Lowry is reaching the end of his playing career. He said during his exit interview at the end of the 2024-25 season that he plans to play for one more season, hopefully with his hometown team.
Now, Lowry has his wish fulfilled.
