Villanova in the Pros: Eric Dixon Wins FIBA MVP Honors

Villanova all-time scoring leader Eric Dixon added another honor to his resume on Sunday, Sept. 27, leading the NBA G League United team to the 2026 FIBA Intercontinental Cup championship. Dixon earned MVP honors for his efforts, averaging 16.3 points and 4.5 rebounds across four games in the tournament.

He put the United States’ representatives up 81-78 with 1:36 to play in the tournament-clinching win with his first made three-pointer of the day; Lithuania’s representatives responded with a triple of their own, and Dixon sank a hook shot that gave his team the lead for good.

Despite his international heroics and scoring flair, Dixon has yet to catch on with an NBA team. He spent the 2025-26 season between the Charlotte Hornets’ and Memphis Grizzlies’ organizations: Memphis signed and then waived him on Sept. 26, likely relegating him to their G-League affiliate once again. Fellow Villanova products like Collin Gillespie also took time to break into the pros, however, and Dixon’s clutch display could help him earn another look.
