Villanova in the Pros: Eric Dixon, Devin Askew Make Summer League Rosters
Eric Dixon, Villanova Men’s Basketball’s all-time leading scorer, will suit up for the Utah Jazz in Summer League play this offseason, giving himself a chance to catch on with an NBA club once the season begins.
An expected second round pick in 2025, Dixon fell out of the draft and signed with the Los Angeles Lakers as an undrafted free agent. He never appeared in any games with the Lakers’ system, however, as an injury caused him to miss the Summer League slate. Dixon later caught on with the Charlotte Hornets’ G-League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm, and finished his first professional season in the Memphis Grizzlies’ organization.
Upon joining the Memphis Hustle, Dixon averaged 21.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Age — he spent five seasons at Villanova — and a perceived lack of athleticism hurt Dixon’s draft stock, but if he can continue to score in bunches, he’ll have a chance at making a strong impression with the Jazz.
Fellow Wildcats product Devin Askew, who won Big East Sixth Man of the Year honors during his lone season on the Main Line, signed with the Phoenix Suns on a Summer League deal. A member of the ESPN Top 100 for his graduating class, injuries prevented Askew from reaching his ceiling as a recruit. Even so, he’s a capable two-way player, and his latent talent will garner the interest of plenty of professional programs.
Lance Ware (Knicks) and Duke Brennan (Nets) are two other Villanova products who will take part in the Summer League, which runs from July 3 to July 19.
