Villanova F Duke Brennan Earns Summer League Audition
Villanova product Duke Brennan will have a chance to prove himself worthy of a professional contract after joining the Brooklyn Nets on a Summer League deal.
A 6-foot-10, 250 pound forward, Brennan averaged a double-double in his lone season on the Main Line, putting up 12.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. In addition to the Nets, Brennan worked out or met with a series of NBA clubs in the run up to the draft, including the Lakers, Pistons and Cavaliers; he also took part in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.
Summer League action will take place across two stints: the California Classic, from July 4 to July 6, and the regular slate between July 9 and July 19, giving prospects like Brennan a chance to catch on with a G-League club. If that doesn’t work, Brennan could continue his playing career in Europe.
A tenacious rebounder with a strong presence in the post, Brennan plays more like a center than his listed power forward. However, he’s undersized at the five, especially at the professional level. Without providing much of a threat from distance — he attempted just three three-point shots in four seasons across stints with Villanova, Grand Canyon and Arizona State — Brennan will need to adapt in order to carve out a niche in the pros, but his reputation for hard work bodes well, be it in the United States or across the pond.
