Two Villanova Football alumni will take part in the NFL playoffs this postseason, as the Los Angeles Chargers promoted cornerback Isas Waxter II to their active roster on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Waxter went undrafted last offseason and signed with the Seattle Seahawks out of training camp, but wasn’t able to make their 53-man roster. He caught on with the Chargers’ practice squad and now has a chance to make his big league debut on one of the game’s brightest stages.

Waxter, 24, spent six seasons with Villanova football, including a medical redshirt in 2022 after an injury caused him to miss the entire season. He racked up three interceptions — all of them during the 2023 season, his first as an All-American — 75 solo tackles, 19 passes defended, three forced fumbles and seven tackles for loss during 46 games in his Wildcats’ career.

Buffalo Bills safety Christian Benford will also take the field this weekend. A sixth round pick in 2022, he signed a four-year contract extension in the offseason worth up to $76 million.

The Bills will face the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1 p.m. on Sunday; the Chargers will kick off against the Patriots in the 8:15 p.m. slot. Both teams will play on the road.
