This is the fifth in a series of stories breaking down the Philadelphia Phillies’ Top 30 prospects heading into 2026.

Ramón Márquez joined the Phillies with little fanfare in January 2025, signing out of Mexico for $10,000 in international bonus pool money. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, the 20-year-old right-hander didn’t need to develop in the Dominican Summer League like most overseas prospects do.

Instead, he joined the Phillies’ rookie ball team when their season began, making ten appearances (eight starts) before finishing his season in Single-A Clearwater. Márquez posted a 4.42 ERA across 55 innings, striking out 72 batters to just 17 walks and four home runs allowed. His command and ability to generate whiffs helped him earn the quick promotion even with a below-average ERA: at the lower levels of professional baseball, projectable talent often counts for more than the raw numbers do.

6-foot-2 and 182 pounds, Márquez hit 96 miles per hour with his fastball during his first season and could continue to build velocity as he develops. Both that and his 55-grade changeup generate groundball outs; his 45-grade slider needs some work, but that three-pitch mix gives him upside as a starter, something that could help him move up these rankings in the coming years.

While Baseball Savant only gives him a 45-grade for control, Márquez fired 68 percent of his pitches for strikes while at Clearwater. Generating whiffs will grow more difficult as he works toward the big leagues, but it’s a promising start for the young right-hander nonetheless. After allowing five runs in three innings in his first Single-A start, Márquez finished the season with a 1.93 ERA in three August starts.
