This is the twentieth in a series of stories breaking down the Philadelphia Phillies’ Top 30 prospects heading into 2026.

Matthew Fisher has yet to throw a professional inning, but the 6-foot-3, 200 pound right-hander already looks the part. A seventh-round draft pick in 2025, the Phillies had to shell out a $1.25 million signing bonus to get him to forego his commitment to Indiana. Pre-draft projections ranked Fisher among the top 50 prospects in his class: MLB.com called him the nation’s No. 5 prep pitcher, but he fell into the Phillies lap in part because of the record bonus teams knew they’d need to hand him.

Although he was born and raised in southwestern Indiana, Fisher grew up in the Phillies’ backyard. He attended Memorial High School, the alma mater of both Philadelphia general manager Preston Mattingly and his father Don, the longtime Yankees’ manager and current Phillies’ bench coach.

His fastball sits between 92 and 95 miles per hour and he possesses a traditional starter’s arsenal, each of his slider, curveball and changeup ranking above-average to average on the 20-80 prospect grading scale. He’s a natural athlete who also starred on the gridiron, accumulating 2,779 passing yards and 42 total touchdowns as a senior.

Fisher has excellent command, striking out 61 batters and walking just 11 over the course of 36.2 innings last spring: with a seven-figure signing bonus hanging in the balance, his coaching staff kept him on a pitch count to preserve his draft stock. Already 20 years old, Fisher is older than the typical prep pick, but he has plenty of time to build strength and velocity as he prepares for his first taste of professional baseball.
