This is the twenty-first in a series of stories breaking down the Philadelphia Phillies’ Top 30 prospects heading into 2026.

Moisés Chace began 2025 with Double-A Reading, posting a 3.24 ERA over six starts (16.2 innings) to begin the year as he slowly built up his workload: a sensible strategy for the 6-foot-1 right-hander, who spent most of the first four seasons of his professional career coming out of the bullpen in the Orioles’ organization. He signed with Baltimore in 2019 but is still just 22 years old, younger than average for a Double-A arm.

Disaster struck on May 14, however, as Chace left after just 1.2 innings with an elbow complaint, one that forced him to undergo Tommy John surgery roughly two weeks later. Long considered a death knell for pitching careers, the procedure has improved dramatically in recent years, the timeline to return to the mound shrinking to as little as 12 months depending on the intensity of the operation.

Phillies Boost His Game

Chace’s recovery will still cut into his 2026 campaign, but he could reach Triple-A before the end of the season. Since joining the Phillies’ organization at the 2024 trade deadline, Chace’s numbers have improved dramatically even as he stretches out to throw more innings. His walks are down, perhaps because he has to moderate his effort over the course of a start, and he’s striking out three times as many batters as he walks. Tommy John surgery could derail that, as the Phillies will monitor his pitch counts closely as he completes his rehab, but he possesses a starter’s arsenal.

Chace leads with his mid-to-high 90s fastball, his low release point adding an extra twist for batters. His sweeper/slider, cutter and changeup are all effective secondary offerings, allowing him to attack both sides of the plate. If he maintains his improved command, that will further augment their effectiveness.
