Phillies Prospect Watch: Mavis Graves Moves On To Double-A

Phillies affiliates went 2-1 on Wednesday, July 29 as storms continued to sweep the region: lefty Mavis Graves made his Double-A debut in a walk-off win for the Fightin Phils.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley scored four straight runs in the late innings, almost digging out of a 5-0 hole. Keaton Anthony homered to start the comeback bid; Otto Kemp reached base three times and Christian Cairo drew a pair of walks from the leadoff spot.

Reliever Alex McFarlane made his IronPigs’ debut after getting a cup of coffee with the Phillies last week, striking out two batters on 20 pitches in a scoreless ninth inning.

Double-A Reading won 7-6, Raylin Heredia reaching on a game-ending throwing error. Bryan Rincon doubled and walked and infield prospect Aroon Escobar singled twice; Jean Cabrera allowed four runs in four innings, while Graves got tagged for a pair of runs in his Fightin Phils’ debut, striking out two batters in one inning but issuing four walks.

Single-A Clearwater won 16-8 behind 14 hits (10 of them singles) and 11 walks. Starting right-hander Brad Pacheco turned in a quality start with six innings pitched and three runs (one earned) allowed. The Threshers’ defense was as bad as their offense was good, combining for four errors: only one of their eight runs allowed counted as earned.

Center fielder Victor Cardoza finished a triple shy of the cycle the previous day; infielder Robert Phelps walked, doubled and homered. Sean Youngerman went four innings, fanning six batters and allowing two runs on 71 pitches as the Threshers won 15-4.
