Philadelphia Native Markieff Morris Part of Luka Dončić Trade

He was far from the headliner, but Philadelphia native Markieff Morris just found himself amidst one of the biggest trades in NBA history.
The Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers agreed to a jaw-dropping blockbuster early on Sunday, Feb 2, with Dallas sending superstar forward Luka Dončić along with Maxi Kleber and Morris to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick in a three-team deal that includes Utah.
ESPN insider Shams Charania broke the news.
Morris, 35, was born and raised in Philadelphia, where he attended Prep Charter High School along with his twin brother Marcus. After three years in college with the Kansas Jayhawks, the Phoenix Suns selected Morris with the 13th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. Since then he’s played for eight different NBA franchises across parts of 14 seasons including the Lakers, with whom he won the 2020 NBA championship.
A 6-foot-9, 245 pound power forward, Morris has appeared in just seven games (no starts) with Dallas this season, averaging 5.9 minutes and 1.7 points per outing. The Mavericks signed Morris to a 1 year, $3,303,771 contract this past offseason, so it’s not like they’re trying to dump his salary… a further bit of intrigue in one of the biggest moments in the NBA in years.
