Eagles Waive St. Joseph’s Prep Alumnus Kyle McCord
The Philadelphia Eagles waived rookie sixth round pick at St. Joseph’s Prep alumnus Kyle McCord on Monday, Aug. 25 as part of their roster slim down on the way into the 2025 NFL season.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz first broke the news.
McCord, 22, led the Hawks to three consecutive PIAA state championships during his time in high school, throwing for 88 passing touchdowns and 6,887 yards, the latter a Philadelphia Catholic League record. A five-star recruit and the No. 32 overall player on ESPN’s Top 300 for the class of 2021, McCord spent time as the starting quarterback at both Ohio State and Syracuse.
After the Eagles selected him No. 181 overall in April’s draft, the 6-foot-3, 218 pound signal caller completed 24 of 56 passes for 191 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions during the preseason.
A handful of drops from his teammates hurt McCord’s final line — always a possibility playing amongst the third-stringers during the preseason — but he also managed to get away with some turnover-worthy plays.
This doesn’t necessarily mark the end of the line for McCord and the defending Super Bowl champions, as they could add him to their practice squad in a developmental role. Should they decide not to, he’ll have the opportunity to sign with one of the other 31 teams in the NFL.
