Villanova now sits at the exact midpoint of their regular season Big East Schedule, with ten games played so far and another ten to go before the conference tournament begins on Wednesday, March 12. As the season goes on, the conference standings are starting to take a clearer picture, with the front runners firmly establishing themselves and the rest starting to settle into their respective niches.

The Wildcats currently possess a 5-5 record in conference play this season, which fits right in with their inconsistent trajectory of upset wins and crushing losses this season. That record slots them into the No. 6 spot in the conference standings, the exact midpoint of the 11-team Big East.

The Wildcats are now firmly out of the NCAA Tournament bubble after a 1-4 skid, their chances of qualifying for the Big Dance dwindled down to 9.7 percent. For comparison, last season Seton Hall held a 20-12 record and just missed the tournament as one of the teams in the ‘First Four Out’ category. Currently 12-9 with ten games left on the schedule (in addition to how many conference tournament games they manage to win), Villanova would basically need to win out in order to qualify for the tournament for the first time since their 2022 Final Four run.

Here’s a look what other teams in the Big East are up to as we sit amidst Week 13 of the 2024-25 NCAA season.

Big East Roundup

St. John’s rests at the top of the conference standings with an immaculate 9-1 Big East record, their lone loss coming at Creighton in a razor-thin 57-56 decision. They crushed Georgetown 66-41 on the road on Tuesday, Jan. 28, spending the past two weeks in the AP Poll after falling out in mid-November.

Marquette is hot on the Red Storm’s heels with a matching 9-1 record, losing 59-57 to Xavier in a shocking home upset to Xavier on Jan. 18. The two titans won’t face off until Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Madison Square Garden.

Creighton holds the No. 3 spot at 7-2, enduring road losses to Marquette and Georgetown, and UConn fits in behind them at No. 4, going 3-3 since the loss of star freshman Liam McNeeley, who went down with an ankle injury on Jan. 1. With McNeeley nearing a return to play, the Huskies’ stock could start trending up.

Xavier, Villanova and Providence occupy the middle tier with matching 5-5 records. The Musketeers started out cold but are one of the biggest risers in recent weeks, going 4-1 with ranked wins over Marquette and UConn with the lone loss coming at St. John’s in overtime.

Bringing up the rear is Georgetown (4-6), dealing with ups and downs during their second year under Ed Cooley, while Butler, DePaul and Seton Hall combine for a total of four conference wins.
