Villanova Transfers: Another Point Guard Target
Villanova Men’s Basketball filled their biggest remaining transfer portal need when they added UIC point guard Elijah Crawford on Sunday, April 19. The Wildcats still have eight spots open on next season’s roster, and they’ll need at least one more point guard as a reserve.
Per Joe Tipton of On3, one potential candidate is LSU rising sophomore Jalen Reece, who is also receiving interest from Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Dayton, Saint Louis, Seton Hall, Charlotte and Arizona State.
He appeared in 32 games for the Tigers last season, starting ten, and averaged 5.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.3 turnovers across 23.8 minutes per game. Reece’s shooting needs some work, as he made just 35.8 percent of shots from the field, but he already displays excellent passing traits and could take a leap as a sophomore.
A top 100 recruit in high school, Reece stands six feet tall and weighs 185 pounds.
In other transfer portal news, former Villanova guard Zion Stanford committed to Towson. Stanford spent his first two college seasons at Temple before transferring to the Wildcats, but injuries meant he never got off the ground. Heading to the CAA could help the 6-foot-6 Philadelphia native reboot his career with at least one season of eligibility remaining. He could also obtain a medical redshirt.
Earlier reports linked Villanova to Saint Mary’s shooting guard Mikey Lewis, but he never posted about his planned weekend visit to campus. With the Wildcats earning the commitment of Cornell transfer Jake Fiegen, he may have cancelled the visit.
