The 2026 WNBA season began on Friday, May 8, with a pair of Villanova products — all-time leading scorer Maddy Siegrist and three-year Wildcats’ starter Lucy Olsen — making opening night debuts.

Siegrist, who the Dallas Wings selected third overall in 2023, continues to serve as a key reserve, dropping 17 points in 16 minutes off the bench during a May 14 loss to Atlanta. Averaging 14 minutes, 8.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, the 6-foot-2 forward is making 52.4 percent of her shots on the season, including 10 of 14 shots from two-point range. A reliable three-point shooter during her time at Villanova, that aspect of Siegrist’s game hasn’t yet translated to the WNBA.

Olsen, who went to the Washington Mystics as a second round pick last season, worked her way into the lineup for a pair of games, managing five points and an assist in five minutes during the Mystics’ May 10 overtime loss to New York. After appearing in 41 games as a reserve last season, Olsen faces a stiffer battle for playing time on a Washington squad looking to take the next step in their ongoing rebuild.

Elsewhere in the Philadelphia Big 5, Penn Quakers product Jordan Obi went to Las Vegas in the third round of the 2026 draft, appearing for eight minutes across two preseason games before the Aces waived her. Nevertheless, Aces’ head coach Becky Hammon spoke out in support of Obi.

“Jordan did a great job when she was here, we appreciate her hard work,” Hammon said. “She’s a good teammate, I think she can turn herself into a really good pro, but we’re just keeping that slot open right now.” Obi averaged 13.7 PPG and 7.6 RPG during her time with the Quakers.
