Maddy Siegrist a “Massive Support” for Villanova WBB
Maddy Siegrist finished her college career with 2,896 points, the 23rd-most in Division I women’s history and the most ever from a Villanova Wildcat.
The third overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, Siegrist keeps a busy schedule, playing for her Dallas Wings during the summer months and spending the offseason with Unrivaled, a three-on-three league that travels the country helping to promote women’s basketball.
When she isn’t on the court herself, Siegrist is supporting Villanova Women’s Basketball. She was on location at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. for the Wildcats’ Big East quarterfinal win over Providence on March 7. After the game, Villanova head coach Denise Dillon described just how involved Siegrist is.
“Maddie, she hasn’t left campus. She’s there,” Dillon said. If she’s not playing for Unrivaled or the Wings, she’s with us there on campus, so we know we have that support.”
From Lead Scorer to X-Factor
Sophomore Jasmine Bascoe, who leads the Wildcats in scoring, never played with Siegrist. Even so, Bascoe said that Siegrist goes above and beyond supporting her and the rest of the team.
“Maddie is a massive support for us, and I’d say we all have a relationship with her outside of basketball as well, which makes it mean so much more to us. She’s just obviously a great role model for all of us, but she’s just a good person,” Bascoe said. “And so just her being here, like, I’m not surprised at all. She supports us all the time. She’ll send you a text after a game, like, she’s just a genuine, really good person.”
Senior forward Denae Carter said that Siegrist and the rest of the Wildcats’ faithful helped Villanova feel at home in the neutral site game.
“I think it’s great having our fans support us everywhere we go, being able to bring the Finn to Mohegan,” Carter said. “I think that’s great for us. We have so much support and honestly, just seeing them in the crowd really boosts our energy, and I think we play off of them, we feed off of their energies.”
