Villanova Guard Acaden Lewis Named Freshman of the Week
Villanova Men’s Basketball point guard Acaden Lewis earned Big East Freshman of the Week honors after his dominant performance against Georgetown on Saturday, Feb. 7, dropping a career-high 26 points alongside six assists and three steals. Lewis made seven consecutive shots for the Wildcats in crunch time, carrying his team to the finish line.
Lewis added 11 points, six assists and two steals in a win over Seton Hall earlier in the week. Senior forward Duke Brennan made the conference honor roll with a pair of double-doubles, averaging 12.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. That gives him 11 double-doubles on the season, the third-highest total in Wildcats’ history. Brennan trails Michael Bradley (14 in 2000-01) and Omari Spellman (11 in 2017-18).
Now on a three game winning streak, the Wildcats’ (18-5, 9-3 Big East) cleaning up against struggling conference foes did little to improve their national standing. After picking up 15 points last week, good for the 31st-highest total, Villanova gained two more points in the Feb. 9 poll, moving into the No. 30 spot.
Villanova Women’s Basketball remains frozen out of their respective voting despite holding the second-best record in the Big East. Wildcats’ guard Jasmine Bascoe picked up a spot on the conference honor roll with the aid of a 27-point game in a comeback win at Butler.
