Villanova Men’s Basketball was already expected to be shorthanded when they host VCU in a preseason exhibition beginning at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19. Now, per a press release, they’ll miss two more players, including a potential starter: senior forward and dunk contest champion Tafara Gapare is dealing with a right foot injury, while redshirt sophomore Malcolm Flaggs has a right Achilles strain.

The team didn’t make any mention of how much time they’re expected to miss, or whether head coach Kevin Willard elected to withhold them from the game out of an abundance of caution.

Flaggs, a former walk-on who later earned a full scholarship, has dealt with injuries throughout his basketball career and will likely play sparingly when healthy. The Wildcats are also without two more potential starters, Temple transfer Zion Stanford and Long Beach State transfer point guard Devin Askew.

With Villanova shorthanded, they’ll trot out a starting lineup of Bryce Lindsay, Tyler Perkins, freshman guard Acaden Lewis, Duke Brennan and Matthew Hodge.
