Philadelphia recalled right-hander Andrew Painter from Triple-A to pitch on Friday, ending a six-week stint back in the minor leagues; the Orioles will opt for right-hander Brandon Young. The proud owner of a 3.13 ERA over 97.2 innings pitched this season, Young has been the Orioles’ best pitcher since his promotion from Triple-A in late April.  While his 1.29 WHIP and 7.37 strikeouts per nine innings aren’t spectacular, Young has succeeded at keeping runs off the board.

Painter holds 7.06 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP over 65 big league innings this season, although his numbers take a leap when J.T. Realmuto is catching for him. Walks have haunted Painter throughout the year, and he isn’t able to limit contact enough (.316 batting average against) to stop free passes from costing him. Painter has never faced the Orioles and  Young hasn’t ever faced the Phillies, so favorable prop markets will be hard to scout.

For bettors looking to back the Phillies’ heavy hitters tonight, Kyle Schwarber (+164) stands out as the most likely candidate to leave the yard. Bryce Harper, similarly, is a solid pick to go over 1.5 total bases (+109).
