Phillies Prospect Watch: Carson DeMartini Returns to Double-A

Phillies affiliates went 0-4 on Wednesday, Aug. 5, with third baseman Carson DeMartini returning to Double-A after nearly three months on the injured list.

The Fightin Phils scored three runs in the ninth but still lost 6-5, a two-run bomb from Raylin Heredia bringing them tantalizingly close to a tie game. DeMartini went 2-for-4 with a walk, Bryan Rincon drew a pair of free passes and Aroon Escobar logged two singles as part of a strong day for Reading’s infield.

Right-handed starter Jean Cabrera continued to find his footing, allowing three runs in five innings. Wen-Hui Pan and Mavis Graves each contributed a scoreless inning out of the bullpen, but a three-run blowup from Jack Dallas in the eighth left the Fightin Phils in a hole they couldn’t climb out of.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley lost 10-1, the lone run coming on a homer from second baseman Robert Moore.

High-A Jersey Shore dropped a 10-9 heartbreaker after overcoming a six run deficit, Phillies 2025 fifth round pick Gabe Craig allowing the winning run. Lefty starter Cade Obermueller got roughed up for six runs in four innings in his second outing for the BlueClaws. Jersey Shore hit 12 singles, shortstop Juan Villavicencio (3-for-4 with a walk) leading the way.  

Single-A Clearwater fell 6-1, their lone run coming from left fielder Jonathan Hogart (2-for-3 with a walk) on the first pitch they saw.
