The Philadelphia Eagles lost their third game in a row on Sunday, Oct. 11, falling 19-17 to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London despite taking a one-point lead with eight seconds to play.

After getting the ball back at their own 38-yard line with 1:35 to play, the Eagles (2-3) drove into Jaguars’ territory with a quartet of completions from quarterback Jalen Hurts, setting up a 48-yard go-ahead kick from Jake Elliott. Jacksonville running back Ameer Abdullah took the ensuing kickoff 53 yards, setting up a 57-yard game winner from Cam Little, who missed an extra point earlier in the quarter.

Offensive Injuries Pile Up

Philadelphia’s offensive woes continued with Saquan Barkley, DeVonta Smith and Tank Bigsby all out to injury. Third string running back Will Shipley, who tied the game with a two-yard dive in the second quarter, departed soon thereafter with a foot injury, setting up Dameon Pierce (11 carries for 14 yards) as the next man up. On the day, the Eagles managed just 22 yards on 18 carries. Even with the injuries at running back and on the offensive line, Hurts and receiver Darius Cooper managed to spring one splash play, a 62-yard touchdown that put them up 14-7 late in the second quarter.

Despite the woes on offense and special teams, the Eagles defense did what they needed to do to secure a win, holding Jacksonville’s efficient offense to a 5-of-16 success rate on third down and forcing a pair of turnovers on fourth down: the second was part of a goal line stand that maintained a 14-10 lead in the fourth quarter. They also notched the game’s lone turnover, with Quinyon Mitchell intercepting Trevor Lawrence on a deep shot in Eagles’ territory late in the third quarter.

Jacksonville broke through after a Philadelphia three-and-out, however, with Lawrence finding Parker Washington for a 27-yard touchdown, his second of the day… setting up the final sequence. Philadelphia will return to action at home against the Carolina Panthers at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18.
