Phillies Prospect Watch: Second Rounder Cade Obermueller Fans Eight
Phillies affiliates went 0-4 on Tuesday, June 23, their best chance at victory coming in a standout start from 2025 second round pick Cade Obermueller. The lefty holds a 2.81 ERA through 16 innings (six starts) this season and fanned eight batters in four scoreless frames on Tuesday, helping him avoid damage from six hits allowed.
Jonathan Hogart (1-for-2 with two walks) and Alirio Ferrebus (2-for-5) both homered; Matt Ferrara and Griffin Burkholder each stole a base, as did Hogart. While Single-A Clearwater led 5-0 after seven innings, they melted down in the eighth, going on to lose 6-5.
Triple-A Lehigh Valley lost 9-6, although a trio of IronPigs reached base three times and 33-year-old former big leaguer Dylan Moore hit a grand slam. Second baseman Christian Cairo went 3-for-5 with a double, Bryan De La Cruz singled and drew three walks, and struggling catcher Rene Pinto, formerly of the Rays, managed to go 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
Double-A Reading lost 9-4, their pitching consistently pummeled in a cross-state matchup with the Altoona Curve. First baseman/designated hitter Alex Binelas did his best to close the gap, going 2-for-4 with a double and a homer; center fielder Pedro León (2-for-4) added a homer and a walk. Second baseman Aroon Escobar drew a pair of free passes, but Altoona pulled away late.
High-A Jersey Shore fell 8-7 in extra innings. After mowing through four scoreless innings in his BlueClaws’ debut, Phillies’ 2025 third round pick Cody Bowker allowed three runs in four innings (70 pitches). Shortstop Tyler Pettorini hit two doubles and catcher Kodey Shojinaga went 1-for-4 with a homer and a walk.
25-year-old second baseman Daunte Stuart, a pickup from the Frontier League, singled, walked and stole three bases in his fifth minor league game.
