Villanova Reaction: Wildcats Blow Late Lead, Heat on for Neptune?

Villanova set the high water mark of head coach Kyle Neptune’s three year tenure when they earned a top ten home win over UConn on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Since then, they’re 1-3 in Big East play despite holding the lead with less than two minutes to play in their loss to Xavier and remaining within a possession of taking the lead late during their loss to St. John’s.

After seeing that same tired script play out again in a 64-63 loss against the Hoyas on Monday, Jan. 20, a quick social media temperature check shows that Villanova fans are fed up… especially because this feels like a mirror of last season, when the Wildcats opened conference play on a 4-1 run before spiraling into a five game losing streak.

Villanova’s next two games won’t get any easier, as they’ll travel to Milwaukee to face No. 10 ranked Marquette on Friday, Jan. 24 before hosting a tough-as-nails Creighton team the following weekend… a prelude to a meat grinder of a February schedule.

Here’s what college basketball fans had to say about Villanova — and head coach Kyle Neptune — after the meltdown against Georgetown, one that saw Villanova hold as much as a 97.3 percent chance of winning before allowing a 9-0 run in the last three minutes.
