Villanova Reaction: Three Sinks Wildcats After Ticky-Tacky Timeout

Villanova held a 60-59 lead with less than ten seconds to play when Creighton senior Steven Ashworth’s three-point try missed badly.

Jasen Green leapt out of bounds to corral the miss and give the Blue Jays another chance, and the referee crew allowed Creighton to call a timeout with the ball — and Green — still in the air, although his momentum almost certainly would’ve carried him out of bounds, giving possession back to the Wildcats. Instead, the Blue Jays salvaged the possession, then took the lead 62-60 on another three-point shot from Ashworth, the eventual game-winning shot.

Instead of snapping a two game losing skid with an emphatic win, Villanova fell to 12-10 (5-6 Big East) and sits amidst their worst losing streak of the season, their postseason hopes trending towards nil. Here’s a look at what fans and media had to say after another heartbreaking loss… their third by just one possession this season. Some chose to focus on circumstances out of the Wildcats’ control, like the questionable call from the referees, while others pointed out the troubling trend of yet another blown lead that Villanova could’ve closed out on the way to victory.
