Villanova in the Pros: WNBA Pick Lucy Olsen Catches On in Washington

Villanova and Iowa Women’s Basketball product Lucy Olsen made the Washington Mystics’ roster out of training camp after coming off the board as a second round pick (No. 23 overall) in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
A native of Montgomery County, Olsen’s securing a roster spot was far from a given: as in the NBA, there are only so many spots to go around… and doubly so in a 13 team league. She played limited minutes during the Mystics’ preseason games, but still did enough to earn a place on the roster. Coming off the bench for a hair under ten minutes per game during the Mystics’ first three regular season games, Olsen scored her first WNBA points during a May 16 win over Atlanta.
A 5-foot-10 point guard, Olsen started at Villanova for three seasons before transferring to Iowa ahead of her senior year. She averaged 14.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game across her college career. Olsen’s best season came during the 2023-24 campaign with Villanova, when she put up 23.3 points per game on the way to First Team All-Big East and Most Improved Player awards.
Elsewhere in the WNBA, former No. 3 pick Maddy Siegrist, Villanova’s all-time scoring leader, is averaging ten points and three rebounds per game for the Dallas Wings, playing alongside UConn standout and No. 1 pick Paige Bueckers.
The duo of Olsen and Siegrist helped Villanova to a Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2023, the program’s most recent NCAA Tournament appearance; they made the WBIT semifinals this past season.
