Former Villanova Wildcats guard and 2018 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player Donte DiVincenzo continued his recent hot streak for the Minnesota Timberwolves, dropping a season-high 26 points in a narrow 112-110 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday, Dec. 29.

Making 8 of 15 shots (5-of-10 from three) with seven rebounds, four assists and a steal, DiVincenzo led the Timberwolves in points, checking in for 34 minutes off the bench. Serving as the catalyst to Minnesota’s win, DiVincenzo’s plus/minus of +23 was the Timberwolves’ best margin by far. Next closest was Nickeil Alexander-Walker’s paltry +6.

This marks the second time in as many games that DiVincenzo has set a season high: on Friday, Dec. 27, he put up 22 points in another narrow win, then against the Houston Rockets.

Primarily serving as a bench player since the Timberwolves acquired him as part of the Karl Anthony-Towns trade, DiVincenzo is averaging 16.83 points over his past six games, significantly better than his season pace of 9.9 points per game. Minnesota has struggled to figure things out since moving on from KAT, but DiVincenzo’s improved play could go a long way to helping them shake out of their current funk. With a three game winning streak under their belts, the Timberwolves sit at 17-14 on the season, good for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference.

Minnesota will next take the court at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder, current owners of the second-best record in the NBA.
