Villanova Football Lands Atop SportsCenter Top 10 Despite Brutal Loss
Villanova Football endured a crushing 52-6 road loss at the hands of No. 2 Penn State on Saturday, Sept. 13, but the Wildcats still managed to take home a win. Wide receiver Brandon Binowski locked down the top spot on the SportsCenter Top 10 list for a one-handed touchdown snag on the last play of the game, a catch that broke up a shutout.
The highlight reel grab began with backup quarterback Tanner Maddocks, who backpedaled to evade a collapsing pocket, dropping back as far as the 25-yard line on a play that began at the eight. Maddocks managed to turn the corner and break up field, but ran out of open space as he neared the line of scrimmage and Penn State’s defenders charged up to meet him.
A heartbeat from running out of bounds or enduring a crushing hit — and without another play to spare as the clock ran out — Maddocks pulled up from his sprint and lofted a pass across his body to Binkowski, putting enough air under it despite the awkward throwing position to allow his 6-foot-3 receiver to extend for the jump ball… but low enough that he could remain in bounds in the back of the end zone and complete the top play of the weekend.
Here’s the full play.
