Villanova Football remains ranked at No. 11 in the StatsPerform FCS poll despite a crushing 52-6 loss to Penn State over the weekend; the AFCA Coaches Poll demoted the Wildcats one spot to No. 12.

With conference play beginning this weekend when the Wildcats travel to face Monmouth (No. 18 coaches/No. 21 StatsPerform), it’s difficult to say just how good of a team they are. Villanova defeated Colgate 24-17 at home to open their season before losing to the Nittany Lions… but games against a team like the Raiders that went 2-10 last season and a team ranked No. 2 in the entire nation are about as far apart as one could choose.

The Wildcats also weren’t at full health in Happy Valley, as starting quarterback Pat McQuaide missed part of the first half with an ankle injury. All in all, Villanova Football has shown that they deserve the benefit of the doubt under head coach Mark Ferrante, but they’re heading into their CAA opener with plenty of unknown variables.

For a related story, redshirt freshman Brandon Binkowski landed on SportsCenter’s center stage for his one-handed touchdown against the Nittany Lions.
