Villanova Football Falls Out of Both Top 25 Polls

Villanova Football dropped out of the FCS Top 25 polls released on Monday, Sept. 28 after their loss to Colgate over the weekend pushed them to 2-3 (1-2 Patriot League) on the season.

The Wildcats still earned a handful of votes, finishing 34th (six points) in the FCS Stats Perform poll and 29th (six points) in the AFCA Coaches Poll. The No. 25 teams finished with 109 and 103 points, respectively, so Villanova wasn’t particularly close in either.

Up next, Villanova will return to action against Morgan State in their non-conference finale finale at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3. Now that they’re out of the top 25, they’ll need a significant winning streak in order to feel confident about a playoff spot: only 24 teams make it in the FCS, and automatic bids for conference champions mean there are only so many at-large bids available.

They found themselves in a similar situation last year before running the table, but their success in one-score games then could point to a regression to the mean this year.
