Villanova Bracketology: Gearing Up For Selection Sunday
Villanova Men’s Basketball will learn their seed and matchup for the first round of the NCAA Tournament during the selection show at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, marking their return to the Big Dance for the first time since 2022. CBS will broadcast the event.
While the Wildcats (24-8) suffered a lopsided upset against No. 11 Georgetown during the first game of the Big East Tournament, they’re still a near-lock for an at-large bid. There are still five conferences waiting to crown a champion — including the Ivy League, where Penn will square off against Yale in the title matchup at 12 p.m. on ESPN2 — but the prospective bracket, bid stealers and all, is starting to settle down.
Villanova entered the Big East Tournament as a prospective No. 7 seed, earning a first round matchup as the ‘home’ team, but their loss to the Hoyas could push them down to the No. 9 or even No. 10 seed line. ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi sees the Wildcats as a No. 9 seed, predicting them to face No. 8 Clemson in Tampa, while analysts Bart Torvik and Evan Miyakowa both think Villanova will squeak into a No. 8 seed.
Villanova Women’s Basketball (25-7) hasn’t received much love from the experts this season despite finishing as the Big East’s runner-up: No. 1 UConn, of course, claimed the crown. ESPN Bracketologist Charlie Creme thinks the Wildcats will earn a No. 8 seed. Torvik gives the women’s team more wiggle room, ranking them as the No. 27 team overall.
The women’s selection show will take place at 8 p.m. Sunday on ESPN, with Villanova hosting a watch party at the Finneran Pavilion with the team.
