Phillies Prospect Watch: Reyes, Moore Start Season Strong
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs began their 2026 schedule with a three-game series last week, sweeping Triple-A Toledo and marking the beginning of the year for the Philadelphia Phillies’ system.
Left Fielder Felix Reyes, who enjoyed his best season in the minor leagues last year after languishing in the lower rungs of the system for four seasons, started 2026 off with a bang, going 4-for-5 with two doubles in the IronPigs’ 5-2 win over Toledo on March 27. Shortstop Christian Cairo (2-for-3 with a double and a walk) and designated hitter/catcher Paul McIntosh (1-for-3 with a double and a walk) also reached base multiple times as Lehigh Valley tormented the Mud Hens’ pitching staff, drawing nine walks on the day.
Starting right-hander Alan Rangel stretched out for 4.2 innings and 81 pitches in a solid if unspectacular early season performance.
The IronPigs gutted out a 1-0 win the following day with big league arms Zach Wheeler and Orion Kerkering making rehab appearances; reliever Génesis Cabrera, veteran of close to seven years in MLB, also made an appearance.
Carter Kieboom (2-for-3 with a walk) and Óscar Mercado (2-for-3) led the way in a singles party at the plate, while Reyes notched the game-winning RBI.
The Sunday series finale saw an 8-7 extra innings win, right fielder and nine hole hitter Cade Fergus (1-for-3 with a double and a walk) providing the game-winning hit. Second baseman Robert Moore, a 2022 compensatory pick of the Brewers, went 3-for-5 with a home run and Sergio Alcántera and McIntosh added doubles.
Lehigh Valley will travel to face Durham this week; Double-A Reading and High-A Jersey Shore will begin their seasons on April 2 and April 3, respectively.
