Phillies Prospect Watch: Carson DeMartini Goes for Extra Bases

Phillies affiliates went 1-2 on Sunday, Aug. 23, with recently-healed infielder Carson DeMartini continuing his rebound in a 10-3 win. DeMartini went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple; Double-A Reading had their game called due to rain after the top of the seventh, in which they put up five runs in buzzer-beating fashion. 

Shortstop Bryan Rincon (2-for-3 with a walk) and first baseman Alex Binelas (1-for-2 with a walk) also came in clutch with three trips on base apiece. Despite a whole half inning played afterwards, lefty Mavis Graves earned the save for his performance in the bottom of the sixth. Graves worked around a walk and a single to put up a zero.

Triple-A Lehigh Valley lost 10-2, two trips on base from Gabriel Rincones Jr. (1-for-4 with a double and a walk) and third baseman Otto Kemp (2-for-3) not enough to balance out a nine-run meltdown from Alan Rangel in the first three innings. High-A Jersey Shore lost 5-4. TJayy Walton doubled, homered and walked, and outfielder Griffin Burkholder (1-for-2 with two walks) also made it on base three times.

Elsewhere in the organization, the Phillies’ 2026 picks have officially made it onto the MLB Pipeline. Prep shortstop and first round pick Tyler Spangler leads the way at No. 4; slugging second round pick Caden Bogenpohl (No. 8) and righties Ruger Riojas (No. 12), Deven Sheerin (No. 25) and Jaxon Jelkin (No. 29) all made the list, as did outfielder Will Gasparino (No. 18). Other new additions include international signees like righty Hua Ho (No. 26) and catcher Anderson Araujo (No. 30).
