Phillies Prospect Watch: Aroon Escobar Ends Homer Drought
Phillies prospects went 1-3 on Friday, June 26, with top second base prospect Aroon Escobar hitting his first home run in a month for Double-A Reading.
The Fightin Phils put on a pitching masterpiece, allowing 12 hits but just one run. 14 strikeouts — including six in 3.1 innings from starter Adam Seminaris — helped Reading’s pitching staff wriggle out of trouble. Escobar hit a three-run home run, walked and stole a base.
Caleb Ricketts and Alex Binelas doubled, while shortstop Erick Brito hit three singles and added a steal.
Triple-A Lehigh Valley lost 4-3 in ten innings, the bullpen blowing six innings of one-run ball from 28-year-old starter Drake Fellows. Playing at third base, Christian Cairo went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks; second baseman Robert Moore homered, and Felix Reyes added a double.
High-A Jersey Shore lost 6-5: the BlueClaws hit three home runs, including a three-run bomb from Carter Mathison, but a pair of solo shots limited the damage. Starter Ramon Marquez allowed three runs over five innings in his second start with Jersey Shore, striking out five batters over 81 pitches.
Single-A Clearwater lost 8-1 in six innings, their game called due to rain. Second baseman Matt Ferrara drew two walks, Alirio Ferrebus hit two singles and shortstop Juan Villavicencio added a double.
Phillies 2025 fourth round pick Sean Youngerman allowed six runs in four innings, sealing the Threshers’ fate.
