Eagles vs. Titans Week 2 Preview: Matchups, Stats, and Odds

The Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) will try to win their second game this season when they travel to face the Tennessee Titans at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20 in a game broadcast on FOX.

Tennessee (0-1) is widely expected to be one of the worst teams in the league this year despite picking top five in each of the last two drafts. They lost 23-10 at home to the equally pitiful Jets last week, while the Eagles survived a late scoring push from the Washington Commanders, hanging on to win 24-22.

Consensus odds position the Eagles as 7-point road favorites against the Titans, with a 39.5-point total. Philadelphia put together a solid debut performance under offensive coordinator Sean Mannion against the Commanders but still has plenty to improve; Tennessee and 2025 first overall pick Cam Ward looked lethargic.

Tight end Dallas Goedert hauled in a pair of touchdowns last week and is one score shy of tying Zach Ertz for seventh on the Eagles’ all-time list. His four catches for 77 yards led the team; Saquan Barkley paced Philadelphia on the ground with 15 carries for 83 yards and a score, but 42 of those yards came on one carry, and he averaged just 3.4 yards per tote the rest of the way.

The loss of left guard Landon Dickerson to a knee injury — he’ll miss at least four weeks on the injured reserve list — could similarly suppress the Eagles’ ground game, but quarterback Jalen Hurts (seven carries for 46 yards and a score) will help them remain multi-dimensional.

Hurts completed 14 of 25 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns against Washington, playing an up-and-down game with as many misfires as chunk plays. He’s a player to watch against Tennessee, as Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons told reporters “we just need to make Jalen Hurts be a QB,” a perceived shot at Hurts’ ability as a passer.

Scouting the Titans

Ward completed 19 of 32 passes for just 140 yards and a touchdown that came with the game well out of reach. Receivers Carnell Tate (four catches for 39 yards and Wan’Dale Robinson (five catches for 38 yards) tied for the team lead in receiving, while 6-foot-2 Elic Ayomanor logged the lone touchdown.

The Titans managed just 11 first downs on the day. Ward added 21 yards on four carries, while veteran back Tony Pollard (seven carries for 35 yards) had success in limited opportunities. Tennessee’s defense didn’t fare much better, recording just two tackles for loss and two passes defensed on the day.

They let New York hold onto the ball for 38:46, allowing 367 yards and struggling to get off the field. While the Eagles don’t want to overlook any opponent — especially with bulletin board material to motivate them after Simmons’ comments regarding Hurts — they pick up the win in 69.6 percent of ESPN Analytics simulations, and an opponent like Tennessee should give them another good chance to settle into Mannion’s offense.
