Villanova WBB: Jasmine Bascoe Starts for Team Canada

Team Canada won the 2026 FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament in August, securing a spot in the Qualifying Tournament heading into the 2028 Olympic Games. Villanova point guard Jasmine Bascoe of Milton, Ontario had a spot on Canada’s roster and started all five games: her best performance came on Aug. 21, when she scored 17 points against Mexico on 5-of-9 shooting.

Bascoe also demonstrated her ability as a facilitator, putting up 15 points and eight assists against New Zealand the following day. She added ten more dishes against Mexico in the final game of the tournament. The qualifying round for the 2028 Olympics will take place in February 2028, late in Bascoe’s senior season.

Through the first two seasons of her college career, Bascoe has a pair of First Team All-Big East honors. She averaged 18.9 points and 4.8 assists per game as a sophomore, helping the Wildcats finish second in the Big East and return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in three seasons.

Also of note, Team Canada’s roster lists Bascoe as 5-foot-6; the Wildcats’ roster has her at 5-foot-7. Bascoe has described how she works around her perceived lack of size as she competes at a high level… and how it helps motivate her to succeed.
